About this notice

This notice explains how First Principles SI handles personal information when you visit firstprinciples.si, subscribe to our Journal, or write to us. First Principles SI is responsible for that information. You can reach us about any privacy question at contact@firstprinciples.si. We are based in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Visiting the website

The website is hosted on Cloudflare. When you load a page, your browser sends standard technical information, such as your IP address, the page requested, and your browser type. Cloudflare processes this information to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We use it only for those purposes, on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

This website does not use analytics or advertising tools, and we do not use cookies to track visitors.

Third-party resources

Some files are loaded from other services. Typefaces come from Google Fonts. The Journal page loads the MailerLite subscription script. Each of these services receives your IP address and basic browser information when it delivers its files, and handles that information under its own privacy policy.

Journal subscription

If you subscribe to the Journal, we collect your email address so that we can send you First Principles SI Journal updates when we publish. We rely on your consent. After you subscribe, you will receive an email asking you to confirm. Your subscription begins only after you confirm.

Subscriptions are managed by MailerLite, which processes this information on our behalf. When you subscribe or confirm, MailerLite also records technical details of the sign-up, such as your IP address and the time of sign-up, and records whether emails are delivered. More information is available in MailerLite’s privacy policy.

Every Journal email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also withdraw your consent at any time by writing to contact@firstprinciples.si. We keep your email address on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.

Email correspondence

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message, and any details you choose to include. We use them to read and reply to your message and to handle any follow-up, on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to inquiries. Our email is provided by Google Workspace. We keep correspondence only for as long as we need it for these purposes. We do not add correspondents to the Journal list.

Service providers and transfers

We share personal information only with the providers named in this notice, and only so that they can provide their services to us. Some of these providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where they do, they are responsible for using the safeguards required by data protection law. We do not sell personal information.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you can ask for a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, object to our use of it, and withdraw consent where we rely on consent. To make a request, write to contact@firstprinciples.si. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this notice

We will update this notice if the way we handle personal information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
